The workshop discusses the issues of social involvement as part of cultural and artistic programs on the example of the Invisible Archives (les Archives Invisibles) project presented at the Manifesta 13 exhibition. Invisible Archives is the non-institutional memory of various public initiatives and activities of communities that originated and exist in several districts of Marseille. In 2019–2020, guest artists and creative teams retold the story of these communities and initiatives, throwing out a challenge against the dominant discourse, at eight exhibitions and under related parallel programs.
The master class will present the analysis of the Invisible Archives project at Manifesta 13. The project presentation was the starting point for discussing the social agenda in the activities of cultural institutions and artistic practices. The Invisible Archives represented some genealogies and non-institutionalized memory structures of various public initiatives and community synergy, which originated in and are related to certain locations in Marseille.
