Class time: 11:00 — 12:15
The First Opera Workshop is an ideal introduction to the genre of opera and the process of creating a performance.
Between the ages of 3 and 6, the child develops and learns by becoming a participant in events, the central character in a situation he or she has created. The First Opera is a vibrant game of theatre. During one meeting, we’ll have time to do lots of theatre stuff: we’ll work out what opera is, listen to music, invite children to think up their own magical characters, and invite them to the stage.
Especially for Theatrocracy, theatrical artists have constructed an enlarged theatre sub-box, a model of a black box that will help show what the heart of the theatre, its geographical and energy centre, is like. Finally, the children will not go home empty-handed, but with their own, only tiny models of the theatre stage. Parents are also very welcome – to help ‘build’ mini theatres, act out opera scenes and enjoy playing theatre.
The class is conducted by Alisa Spirina, supervisor of the children’s education programme and head of the New Opera Education Cluster.
The programme design and art materials have been prepared by Ksenia Malaitseva, theatre artist and director of numerous productions in theatres throughout Russia.
About the children’s programme at the exhibition-festival Theatrocracy. Catherine II and Opera:
The exhibition Theatrocracy. Catherine II and Opera is a unique project, born at the intersection of theatre and museum collaboration. The Theatrocracy programme for children is also an area of cooperation between the museum and musical theatre.
The educational programme was developed by one of Moscow’s most famous theatres especially for the museum together with the exhibition’s supervisors. To create a unique set of children’s theatrical classes, Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve invited the New Opera Educational Cluster (OKNO), a leading expert and innovator in the field of educational programmes for children and adults.
The programme is supervised by Alisa Spirina, the creator and head of OKNO.
As a reminder, each ticket is for two people – an adult and a child. The ticket admits only one child.
An adult’s participation is compulsory.
For a group of one adult and two children, two tickets must be purchased.
